Video 101 with John Ross: Always Be Ready

Being a Video Coordinator is one of the best ways to get your foot in the door in the NBA.

Openings usually take place during the summer, but it’s keen to be ready at any time.

The Portland Trail Blazers recently made some movement in their Front Office and staff and one of the things they needed on the other side of it… video guys.

For the Trail Blazers, they were looking for a particular skillset to come in and fill the roles that opened.  It’s not always easy to find a particular skillset in December or January when most qualified applicants have taken jobs elsewhere.

And that is where it is key for you to simply be in touch with your NBA contacts.  It’s not always an easy balance to know when or how often to be in touch.  As I recommend, every couple of months.  Too much and you’ll be tuned out, too little, you may miss an opportunity.  But finding that balance between being in touch and keeping tabs on a team’s situation can be key to getting your foot in the door.
