Should I Still Be Looking for NBA Internships for 2024-2025?
There is always a simple answer and an elongated answer.
Simple answer = yes.
Elongated answer = yes and… you should be looking at G-League, NCAA, WNBA, and any other opportunity as well.
NBA teams hire for their internships somewhat year-round with the hottest times in July and September. But teams will continue to hire into the season.
But if you haven’t locked in an opportunity by now or aren’t in the interview process, now is the ideal time to make yourself available to G-League teams. I’ve spoken with a handful of G-League teams and many are just now beginning their hiring processes. They typically have to wait until the NBA staff is settled and then they move forward with their own process. A lot of candidates for the NBA positions will now be candidates for the G-League positions.
The G-League is not only a stepping stone for future NBA players but it is just the same for future NBA staff. Often, I would even say that getting an entry-level position in the G-League can be even more valuable than an entry-level position in the NBA due to the opportunities you will have at the G-League level. In the NBA, you will be somewhat pigeon-holed into a role. In the G-League, they will need you to do anything and everything. This can be a huge advantage as you move upwards due to having a variety of skills and expertise that you can utilize as you look to move up in your career.
The biggest challenge in applying for a G-League / NCAA position right now is if an NBA position still comes knocking. I’ve written about this in previous articles but the keys are to not share too much with everyone (until something is solid) but to also be clear and honest when ultimate decisions need to be made.
If you are trying to get an NBA job this year and you get offered a G-League or NCAA position, be honest with them. If you are applying for multiple positions across multiple leagues, you don’t need to tell anyone until it comes down to a final decision. And often, if you are able to get multiple interviews, that can help give the organizations what they need to make a final decision on you and let you move forward one way or another.
Definitely, keep connecting with your network, checking LinkedIn, and looking at team’s websites for opportunities. We are in a sweet spot of hiring and interviews. NBA personnel are back after a bit of a break and are making final decisions on staffing. But also, if you haven’t locked anything down, make sure to be connecting with G-League and NCAA teams for what opportunities they have in the coming season.
And I can’t think of a better way to get ready for the NBA season than in joining our NBA Training Camp Course! Hear from NBA Personnel (we even had an NBA General Manager come in last season) and start building your hoops portfolio for the season.
Classes are on Zoom, Tuesday evenings, Oct 1 – 22. All classes are recorded.

GITG101 has seriously been one of the most impactful experiences I've encountered in my young career. John and the gang are so insightful and supportive in my passions and just enjoy hoops talk. I don't have many folks to talk to about the sport and GITG101 has also inspired me to re-pursue my basketball career goals."
