Not the year I expected.
At the beginning of the year, we (Portland Trail Blazers) were partway through the season having just gone through a brutal investigation, having our GM fired and then… others fired too, including myself.
I had written some articles for GITG101 that had caught some traction on LinkedIn (shout-out to all my LinkedIn fam!). But now that I was fired, I didn’t know if I wanted anything to do with basketball at all.
But I kept writing articles to my handful of subscribers (shout-out to my core guys from the start, Kendall, Andrew, and Luis). And then, while having not watched a basketball game in 4 months (detox, please), I decided to have an NBA Draft Course, GITG101’s first course.
I was actually in Romania and Ukraine at the time working with refugees from the War when the idea hit me… I should have an NBA Draft Course. I might not like basketball right now but I enjoy teaching, love helping others, and have been obsessed with the NBA Draft since I was a kid.
I had a week and a half to get it ready and 35 of you signed up!! It was incredible. And shout-out to our first sign-up John and all those who had me on their podcasts to help me get the word out! (John, Zach, Dan, Chris, Karsten, Ryan, Kevin…)
Now we are 4 courses in. And a bunch more articles. And I’ve heard they’ve been using my content at different Universities?! I’m here for that. Maybe you can get some Course credit one day, I’d love that.
I still have a complicated relationship with basketball. I think we’ll get more into that in the coming year, specifically the mental health side, which many of you have reached out to me about. But despite that complication, I still love helping others. And I’ve been blown away by your guys’ success (many of you getting NBA job interviews, internships, and full-time positions in hoops). And I certainly appreciate you all following up to let me know how the articles and classes have helped. It truly means a lot. You know I’m rooting for you.
But I also want to hear from you what you would like from GITG101 this coming year.
Are there certain types of classes? Teachers? Specific articles? Or something out of the box I haven’t thought of.
I’d love to hear from you.
