(Additional ?) - Should I apply for NBA internships if they are listed for college credit only?
In regards to post:
Question: I’m curious about your last post speaking to “for credit internships”—do the majority of these internships provide room/board for the duration (even though un-paid), or is it relative to each team in the NBA?
This takes place on a team-by-team basis. Some teams house interns, some teams assist, and some teams do nothing at all. For summer internships (3 months), often there is some kind of assistance or housing.
If you get an opportunity for a summer NBA internship, I recommend taking it and figuring out the logistics. Oftentimes, a summer internship can lead to a full-time, year-long internship. At the same time, make sure you have some kind of financial backing, ability to take an unpaid internship and provide for your own living expenses if needed. Some teams will even allow you to get a part-time job while you intern. But in this case, it can also take away from the time you could be spending around the team.
In today’s economy, there are plenty of ways to make money online as well. If you have no outlet to make money and would like to take an unpaid internship, I would recommend finding part-time jobs on-line that are flexible to your schedule and allow you to make some money to pay for your necessities.
I know, it all can seem a little silly when you’re working with and around millionaires for a billion-dollar company… but many of us have found ourselves sleeping on couches and taking home leftovers until we’ve found our way. When positions (internships) are in such demand, the need to pay or take care of interns by the organizations is not always a priority.
